SeaWorld San Diego‘s “Electric Eel” roller coaster is on track to open next summer following the California Coastal Commission’s approval Thursday of the theme park’s new ride.
“This was great day and we thank the Coastal Commission for their support,” said Park President Marilyn Hannes. “We remain committed to long-term investment in the park and will continue to strive to provide new reasons to visit SeaWorld by giving our guests experiences that matter. We know our guests are going to love Electric Eel.”
Electric Eel will feature a 60 mph top speed with loops, twists and airtime, including a upside-down view of Mission Bay.
Construction of the new ride will begin immediately, officials said. It will join Manta and Journey to Atlantis as the third coaster-type ride experience at the park.
Earlier the project received unanimous support from the City Council.
